How we handle kids' data.
Written for parents, in plain English. If something here is unclear, email us — we'll rewrite it.
The short version
Apna Tutor is a service parents use on behalf of their kid. Kids themselves do not make accounts, do not log in, do not chat on the platform. You are the account holder, the consenter, and the person with the delete button.
What we ask you to attest to
At signup, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian and that you consent to us collecting your kid's first name, grade, and any learning notes you choose to share. You confirm this again the first time you add each kid profile.
For our closed friends-and-family beta, we record that attestation with a timestamp and the exact wording you saw. That is your COPPA consent record.
What we do not do yet
- We do not run AI over your kid's data. No copilots, no models training on notes, no automated profiling.
- We do not host video. When you book a tutor, they send you a Zoom, Google Meet, or WhatsApp link. We never see the session.
- We do not show ads inside the app. No third-party ad networks see your kid's data.
What we'll add before public launch
A COPPA-compliant verifiable parental consent (VPC) flow. In practice that means one of the methods the FTC accepts — a signed release, a knowledge-based verification, a small credit-card authentication, or a COPPA-Safe-Harbor-certified provider. We want to pick the one that is least friction for you and still stands up legally.
We will email every beta parent when we switch it on and ask you to re-consent. Nothing about your data changes between now and then.
Your deletion right
You can delete everything at any time from your parent dashboard. We hard-delete kids, sessions, payments, reviews, messages, and your user row. No hidden soft-delete. Backups are pruned on a rolling window.
